Aberlour 10-year-old Malt Scotch Whiskey

Aberlour 10-year-old Malt Scotch Whiskey

Produced by the Aberlour Distillery, located at Speyside in Scotland, where the Lour Burn or the Lour Stream joins the River Spey, the Aberlour 10-Year-Old has 40% ABV and is made from 100% malted barley that is kiln dried. Peat is not used to dry the barley, as peat imparts a smokiness that masks the whiskey’s natural flavors. Water from the Lour Burn cools the wort during the fermentation process.

  • History

Founded by James Fleming in 1879, the Aberlour Distillery was the long-nurtured dream of this local farmer’s son. From being a supplier of grain to local distilleries, James Fleming went on the build ‘the perfect model distillery’ in Aberlour. A daring modernist who spared no expense and oversaw every design and construction detail personally, the Aberlour distillery in Speyside was perfectly powered by a waterwheel driven only by the Lour Burn. Fleming, a philanthropist, also built a hospital and the town hall, and contributed to improving the lives of his workers. He is buried in the village cemetery opposite Aberlour.

The current Whiskey Maker at Aberlour and his team comprise the very same men that laid down the casks of the 18-year old Aberlour. After passing through the hands of a number of owners, Aberlour Whisky finally found a home with Pernod Ricard in 1975, as part of its Chivas Brothers portfolio.
