Aberlour 18 Year Old Double Cask Matured

Aberlour 18 Year Old Double Cask Matured

The Aberlour 18 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from the remarkable Speyside distillery. It is the oldest whisky in the Aberlour core range, and belongs to the ultra-premium segment in the whisky market.

It achieved a wider release only in 2008, before which the 18-Year-Old was only available in the French market.

History

The Aberlour Distillery was established by James Fleming in 1879 in the town of Aberlour, county of Moray. After previously being employed at the Dailuiane Distillery for close to a decade, Fleming circled back to his hometown, putting every bit of knowledge and experience he acquired into his new project.

After building the distillery, Fleming distilled whisky at the Aberlour for many years until his eventual demise in 1895. The Distillery was then sold to Robert Thorne & Sons who ran the business until 1921 before selling to W. H. Holt & Sons.

The Aberlour Distillery changed hands once again before it was finally acquired by Pernod Ricard in 1975, and has enjoyed stability and a purple patch of success with their single malt whiskies, both critically and commercially.

Over the years, the Aberlour Whisky brand has become one of the most revered single malt brands among whisky enthusiasts with particular praise meted out to their exceptional ‘Double Cask Matured’ range of single malt Scotch whiskies, and the small batch produced cask strength miracle, the Aberlour A’bunadh.

Making Process

The Aberlour 18-Year-Old is distilled, matured and bottled at the Speyside facilities of the brand, and undergoes the brand’s famous Double Cask Maturation process.

Matured in traditional American Bourbon barrels, whiskies belonging to the Aberlour Double Cask Maturation series including the 18-Year-Old are finished in carefully hand-picked Oloroso Sherry barrels.

This helps infuse a breath-taking repertoire of flavours and a terrific texture to the single malt explaining the high praise bestowed upon Aberlour single malts.

The 18-Year-Old Double Cask Matured expression from Aberlour similarly is a delightfully smooth, elegant and delicious bottling that completes the brand’s wonderful inventory of single malts.

Alcohol Percentage

The Aberlour 18-Year-Old Double Cask Matured single malt carries an alcohol strength of 43% ABV, slightly higher than the standard permissible limit for Scotch whiskies.
