Arran Amarone Cask Finish Single Malt

The Arran Amarone is a single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Arran distillery on the eponymous Isle of Arran. It is bottled at cask strength, and derives its name from the name of the distillery and the type of barrels used to finish the single malt.

The Arran Distillery inventory consists a range of unique single malt Scotch whiskies finished in a variety of barrels such as Port, Sauterne, Marsala and more.

History

The Arran Distillery was established in 1995 in the village of Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. It was established by former Chivas director Harrold Currie who intended to build a distillery at the island that was once home to several legal and illegal distilleries a little over two centuries ago.

After over a decade and a half the absence of a single legal distillery on the island, Arran Distillery’s first batch of three-year-old whiskies were opened in 1998. The distillery did not commercially sell a single bottle of their spirit until 2006 when they released their first expression, the Arran Malt 10-Year-Old, followed by the Arran Malt 14-Year-Old.

A little over 24 years older, the Arran brand has established a solid and credible reputation with their unique single malts in the market.

Making Process

The Arran Amarone Single Malt is a no-age-statement Scotch whisky that has been finished in ex-Amarone barrels, a dry Italian red wine that is prepared using partially dried Corvina grapes, Rondinella grapes and Molinara.

Master Blender James MacTaggart carefully oversees the finishing process in the Amarone barrels sourced from the Veneto region in Italy.

Alcohol Percentage

The Arran Amarone Cask Finish Single Malt carries an alcohol strength of 50% ABV, significantly higher than the standard permissible limit for Scotch whiskies.

Awards

The Arran Amarone Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch whisky has not won any major whisky tasting awards or medals.
