The Irish penchant for whiskey is matched by few, and this love for whiskey is embodied perfectly by Bushmills, one of the oldest and most popular Irish whiskey makers on the island country. Dating back as far as 1608, Bushmills was founded by Thomas Philips when King James I granted him with a license to distil. Thus began the journey of Bushmills Irish Whiskey, a brand that has changed multiple hands over the years, surviving a fire that destroyed the Old Bushmills Distillery, the ominous decade of Prohibition and the Second World War, retaining its charm throughout the centuries. Bushmills, along with Jameson, is a quite renowned Irish whiskey brands all over the world. The Bushmills brand celebrated 400 years in 2008, and have expanded their inventory to include some of the finest expressions of Irish whiskey known to mankind. Alongside the Bushmills Original, a blend of triple distilled malt whiskey with grain whiskey, the brand has a number of other blended and single malt options. The Bushmills 10-year-old single malt Irish whiskey is one of their finest aged single malt expressions.

Characteristics of the Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey

The Bushmills 10-year-old is distilled using a mash that is 100% malted barley, and is aged for at least 10 years in ex-Bourbon and Sherry barrels. The traditional Irish whiskey triple distillation process lends it a distinctly smoother finish. The ex-Bourbon maturation lends a tantalizing aroma and a creamy feel to the whiskey. It is light gold in colour. The Bushmills 10-year-old is the standard single malt expression from the company. It has an alcohol strength of 40% ABV, and is one of the youngest single malt Irish whiskeys in the Bushmills inventory with other expressions being the Bushmills 16-year-old, and the Bushmills 21-year-old, both considerably more matured than the 10-year-old.
