Clan Campbell is a brand of blended Scotch whisky deriving its name from a historic Scottish clan from the Northern regions of Scotland. The Clan Campbell 12-Year-Old is a blended Scotch whisky expression was first released in the 1980s.

History

The Clan Campbell brand name is derived from a Scottish clan of the same name, and the brand was established by Samuel Rosenbloom, who eventually changed his name Campbell. The brand was established in the city of Glasgow in 1933 as Muir Mackenzie before the name Clan Campbell was adopted by the brand many years later.

The very first Muir Mackenzie blends were launched in the market in the year 1948. The Clan Campbell brand name on a whisky bottle appeared first in 1978 on a 5-Year-Old expression, followed by the launch of the 12-Year-Old in 1985.

By then the brand had gained steady ground in the market not just in Scotland but other parts of Europe too. The Duke of Argyll, the head of the Scottish Clan Campbell was named a member of the House of Campbell board, officially legitimizing the relationship between the Clan and the brand.

Clan Campbell had successfully completed annual sales of over 1 Million, cementing their reputation as one of Europe’s fastest growing Scotch Whisky brands. It is one of the most popular Scotch whisky brands in France selling nearly 1.7M cases, and is fairly popular in and around Scotland.

Making Process

Clan Campbell blends are known to have a Speyside heart with some other whiskies added to the blend from parent organization, Pernod Ricard owned Distilleries in Scotland.

Aberlour and Glenallachie are two of the most prominent and popular source whiskies that are part of the Clan Campbell blend, with grain and malt whiskies from other parts of Scotland added in undisclosed proportions too.

Alcohol Percentage

Clan Campbell 12-Year-Old blended Scotch whisky carries an alcohol strength of 40% ABV, the standard permissible limit for Scotch whiskies.

Awards

Clan Campbell 12-Year-Old has not won any major awards or medals at whisky tasting competitions.
