Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky

Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky

Named after one of the most famous and efficient ‘clipper ships’ from Britain, the Cutty Sark whisky brand has been one of the oldest and enduring Scotch whisky brands.

Loyal fans of the Cutty Sark vouch by its smooth taste, while some aren’t fans but there is no denying the popularity of Cutty Sark, a fine blended whisky.

Cutty Sark prides itself on their whisky’s rebellious nature that stems from its entry into the market back in the day, and how the brand did not play by the rules. Lighter in color and in taste, the Cutty Sark is a beautiful example of a cult brand that is vociferously defended by its lovers.

Cutty Sark History

The brand was first thought of in the year 1923 by three friends, winemakers Francis Berry and Hugh Rudd and artist James McBey over lunch as they discussed the need for a new kind of whisky that was lighter, and more diverse in terms of ways to drink it.

Cutty Sark whisky is obtained by mixing together single malt whisky from Glenrothes, a Speyside distillery, with whiskies from many different Scottish distilleries.

This blended Scotch became a wildly popular brand as Prohibition came to an end selling over 80 thousand cases until 1936. Cutty Sark blended scotch whisky continued its meteoric rise as it was declared the bestselling Scotch whisky in the United States of America.

It has continued to be one of the most popular whiskies in the market with a string of different age expressions being introduced into the Cutty Sark blended whisky inventory over the years.

Cutty Sark Alcohol Percentage

A crisp, light golden liquid, Cutty Sark is bottled at 40% ABV and is packaged in a sleek green bottle with a yellow label. The label carries a rendition of a ship illustrated by artist Carl George August Wallin.
