History of Glenlivet Nadurra

In 1822, founder George Smith was beginning to perfect his craft and the brand that would go on to become The Glenlivet, the ‘single malt that started it all’. The Glenlivet had attained such popularity that even King George IV himself enquired about tasting a dram of the infamous Speyside single malt that had captivated whisky lovers across the country.

After the distillery obtain a legal permit to distill, other illicit distillers from the Speyside began threatening George Smith with dire consequences but the man did not give in.

This indomitable spirit, and the thirst for excellence propelled The Glenlivet brand towards success and continues to sustain it even today. After the passing of George Smith, his youngest son, John Gordon Smith took over the reins of the company in 1884, followed by his second great-nephew who took over in 1921.

The Glenlivet Distillery was among the very few distilleries that survived the Great Depression and remained functional throughout the period, only briefly suffering closure during the World War II.

It is most popular and highest selling single malt whisky in America, and the world’s second bestselling single malt whisky with annual sales in excess of six million bottles.

Making Process of Glenlivet Nadurra

As the name specifies, The Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill Selection is a single malt whisky matured exclusively and completely in ‘first fill American White Oak barrels’.

The Glenlivet Nadurra series of single malt whiskies have been created by Master Distiller Alan Winchester using traditional 19th century techniques and methods, including the use of first fill American Oak barrels that have been a particular preference of previous distillers at The Glenlivet Distillery.

All the whiskies belonging to the Nadurra range are non-chill filtered, a process used to remove residual materials such as acids, proteins and other esters in the whisky that meddle with the translucence of the spirit. Being a non-chill filtered whisky, this lends a truly well-defined character and texture to the Nadurra range of whiskies.

The Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill Selection single malt Scotch is a natural cask strength bottling carrying an alcohol strength of 63.1% ABV, significantly higher than the standard permissible limit of 40% ABV for Scotch whiskies.
