Paul John Brilliance Indian Single Malt Whisky

Paul John Brilliance Indian Single Malt Whisky

An infant in whisky years, Paul John whisky, was launched in London in 2012 by John Distilleries. The distillery founded in 1992 is an Indian company, which is known to produce many beverages like wine, brandy and whisky.

Although it says Indian, Paul John is made from Indian barley, with Scottish peat, distilled in traditional copper containers and later matured in American oak casks.

Launched first in the United Kingdom, Paul John Single Malt whisky was appreciated by whisky lovers in Europe.

Apart from Europe, Paul John Single Malt whisky is also available in USA, New Zealand, Australia, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. The company eventually plans to expand their supply to other countries and make the brand available in all European markets.

Paul John Whisky History

The distillery is based in Bengaluru, but the single malt is made in Goa. Paul John whisky has been manufacturing blended whiskies since 1992 and the company decided to enter the single malt arena to be part of the premium market. Michael John, master distiller at Paul John decided to use Indian ingredients as a tribute to the whisky’s Indian origin. However, the hot and humid Goan climate presented a challenge because the speed of evaporation was much higher. However, as Michael clarifies, a Paul John single malt matured for 4-5 years in India achieves the same maturation as a 15-year-old Scotch whisky.

Eventually, two Paul John single malts were released in 2013, Paul John Brilliance and Paul John Edited.
