Signature Rare Aged whisky is a premium Indian whisky produced and marketed by United Spirits Ltd, owned by Diageo. Signature is one of the instantly recognizable whisky brands in India and has been a mainstay of bars across the country since its launch.

History of Signature Rare Aged Whisky

In 1994, the then McDowell’s Spirits Limited launched the McDowell’s Signature as a super-premium whisky in India. Initially the whisky was made available in quarts, before more pack sizes were made available in 1999. Later, the brand was downshifted into the premium whisky category in 2001.

Later still, the McDowell’s name was dropped, and the whisky was simply marketed as Signature Rare Aged Whisky after United Spirits Limited (a merged entity formed by McDowell & Co Limited, Herbertsons Limited, Triumph Distillers and Vintners Private Limited, Baramati Grape Industries India Limited, Shaw Wallace Distilleries Limited and four other distillers) came under the management of Diageo.

Making Process of Signature Rare Aged Whisky

Signature Rare Aged Whisky is a blend of Islay, Highland and Indian whisky, put together by master blender Caroline Martin. The whisky has very subtle oaky notes of sweetness, fruit, and caramel. Its palate includes oak, vanilla, caramel and molasses with hints of green grass and juniper.

Signature Rare Aged whisky has an alcohol by volume of 42.8%, which is typical of Indian grain spirits. The whisky is available in 180ml, 375ml and 750ml packs.
